I’m Catlou, the heart behind CatLou Designs—a Kentucky artist who has spent a lifetime creating with my hands. My love for sewing began years ago at my grandmother’s side, and over time it has grown into something much deeper.
Alongside sewing, I’ve always been drawn to painting and mixed media—finding beauty in textures, colors, and the stories they can tell. Whether I’m stitching a memory bear, piecing together a quilt, or working on a mixed media piece, my goal is the same: to create something meaningful.
Each piece I make is more than fabric or paint—it’s a memory, a feeling, a little piece of love you can hold onto. My faith guides my work, and I pray that what I create brings comfort, peace, and joy to others.

Every stitch in this quilt carries a memory.
As I cut into my father's shirts, I found myself remembering the countless times I saw him wearing them—working in the yard, sitting at the kitchen table, sharing stories, and simply being Dad. Each plaid pattern held a piece of his life and a piece of my heart.
There were moments while sewing when I smiled at happy memories, and moments when tears found their way into the seams. Yet with every square I joined together, I felt as though I was preserving something precious that time could never take away.
This quilt is more than fabric and thread. It is comfort. It is remembrance. It is a tangible hug from someone deeply loved and greatly missed.
Creating memory quilts like this reminds me why I sew. Fabric may wear with time, but love never does. By transforming cherished clothing into something that can be wrapped around shoulders and held close, the memories continue to warm us for years to come.
Dad may no longer wear these shirts, but his story lives on in every stitch.
